Mary Beth Thornton is a proud, lifelong resident of Trumbull. She grew up on Laurie Road and attended St. Theresa’s Elementary School, Hillcrest Middle School and graduated from Trumbull High School in 1976. A community activist for nearly 20 years, Mary Beth has served on the Town Council for the past eight years, where she is the Democratic Minority Leader and represents the Nichols district.

After high school, Mary Beth attended the University of Bridgeport (UB), where she graduated Summa cum laude and received a dual degree in biology and art before attending the Medical College of Georgia for a Masters of Science in Medical Illustration. After college, she made a lifechanging decision by accepting a position as a medical illustrator at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Medical Center in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. After 4 years it was time to come home to Trumbull.

Mary Beth married Dr. Scott Thornton in 1992, and moved to Greenbriar Road, where she lived for 12 years and became an active member of the community. From 1985 to the present she’s worked as an independent consultant on the production of medical teaching materials including: surgical textbooks, instructional materials for specialized medical/surgical presentations, and medical illustrations for pharmaceutical marketing. Prior to her work as a consultant, Mary Beth was employed at the Yale Department of Surgery where she produced CD-ROM-based instructional series, including animation of surgical techniques for advanced laparoscopic surgical techniques.

Mary Beth and Scott currently live on Cherry Gate Lane with their daughters, Sara and Emma, and their dog, Rocko. Both daughters attend Trumbull public schools.

Most Significant Public-Service Accomplishment
Upon taking office as Town Clerk in 2005, Rose became aware of a basement full of vital town documents that had suffered years of neglect and improper storage in the lower storage area of the Town Clerk’s vault. She initiated a project of reclaiming and reorganizing those documents at a minimum of expense to the Town. Those documents were organized and stored correctly for easy accessibility and use for decades to come.

Goals for My Term
New technology is increasingly enhancing and improving document creation, storage and management. I am looking forward to bringing new and innovative ways to implement new technology in the Town Clerk’s office while decreasing operating costs. I will continue with the extended office hours I initiated in my first term as Town Clerk.
